Clemmons:One Connect

We are so excited to announce our Clemmons:One Connect Ministry. This ministry is an opportunity for youth to engage in their virtual learning while also socially engaging with their friends/peers with safety measures in place. Our Clemmons:One Connect ministry is helping to provide a space for Middle and High School youth, one day a week for High School and one day a week for Middle School. So, our Clemmons:One Connect Ministry is meant to be a haven for youth who are craving social engagement with peers during this time of social isolation and anxiety.

Why: So many of our Clemmons:One youth and youth in our community are struggling with the isolation remote learning brings during the week. Our priority is to provide a space outdoors where youth can complete their remote learning but then also engage with their peers in a fun and safe way. We want to lift up the mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of our youth!

How: Our Clemmons:Connect Ministry is completely OUTDOORS! This is not only safest for all participants but also allows us to offer this opportunity to more youth than we could accommodate inside. Below are some notes on how this ministry will operate:

  • While youth are completing their synchronous learning on their computers/laptops, they will be housed under a large event tent (Connect Tent) that will provide shade and shelter from the rain. Our Connect Tent also has flaps so that in case it does rain, flaps can just be lowered on one or two sides where the rain is slanting into the tent to ensure all youth and their belongings stay safe and dry.

  • Lockers are also being provided for each youth. This will allow youth to place their computers and other valuables away in between classes and while they are out in the field doing their social activities. Each youth will be given a key that will be checked out for that day to operate their locker. No locks are required.

  • All tables are being spaced 6” or more apart under the tent and each table also will have a sneeze guard mounted as an extra precaution. This will allow all youth to participate on their synchronous learning without having to wear a mask on camera.

  • We also have laptop power blocks that can be used when a laptop or iPad starts running low on battery.

  • Outdoor WiFi is available for our participants to use under our Connect tent.

  • Youth are responsible for bringing their computer/iPad fully charged each day, headphones, and all of their needed belongings. All youth will be required to listen to their synchronous learning via headphones to remove unnecessary distractions from other youth.

  • To remove as many distractions as possible, each youth will be given a card when they arrive that they can raise or place on the table in front of them to notify one of our Connect leaders that they have a question or are in need of an item.

  • Once a youth has finished with a class or is on break, they may exit the Connect Tent and continue working in our Study Hall for tutoring or may head out to our activity field which will house various activities such as games, arts and crafts, yoga, learning how to wood-work, etc. Our Connect Tent will be as quiet and distraction free as we can possibly make it. All activities will take place across the campus to remove additional sounds from interfering those completing synchronous learning.

  • While we know that many youth are very responsible about on getting back on their computers for class at their allotted time, some of us may need a gentle reminder when having fun out in the field! So, before a youth leaves the Connect Tent, they will notify our Tent Coordinator the time they need to be back online for class. We will notify each youth five minutes before it is time to be back on class.

Safety Measures:

  • All equipment, tables, chairs, and activity supplies will be washed down and sanitized each day or between each use.

  • Hand washing stations will be located in two locations on campus as well as hand sanitizer provided in highly traveled areas.

  • When youth arrive they will visit our sign-in table to receive a temperature check and sign-up for one of our Connect teams. Our Connect Teams are smaller pods of youth that will participate in activities together throughout the day.
